“One Thing”

Tagline: Declaring Christ, Desiring the Church, and Discerning our Calling.

In the Bible, the phrase ‘one thing’ is used four different times. (Ps 27, John 9, Philippians 3, and once when Jesus told Mary that she lacked ‘one thing.’ Of all 4 of those, we are going to take some time over the next few weeks and discuss the ‘one thing’ we should discover, desire, and
Overview: The blind man received his sight and the one thing he discovered was Jesus.
David desired one thing and that was the house of God.
Paul pursued one thing and that was the calling of God.

“One Thing Discerned” or “Discerning One Thing” “Discovering One Salvation”

John 9 - “This one thing I know, I was blind but now I see.”
Theme: Desiring Christ (reword)
What’s the ‘one thing’ you should know about salvation? (I don’t like the wording of this question…)
The theme of this message is discovering the result of salvation in Jesus Christ.
The blind man was touched by Jesus, as Jesus annointed his eyes with clay, and after washing in the pool of Siloam, he was able to see. The Pharisees, however, did not like this at all, and eventually excommunicated him from the synagogue.

“One Thing Desired” or “Desiring One Thing” “Desiring One Place”

Psalm 27:4 KJV 1900
One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple.
Theme: Desiring Church
What is ‘one thing’ you are asking for?
David writes this Psalm during a time when he needed protection. While he asks for God’s help, the one thing he prays for is to be in the house of God.

“One Thing Done” or “Achieving One Thing” or “Developing One Pursuit” or “Developing One Purpose”

Philippians 3:10–14 KJV 1900
That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Theme: Desiring a calling. Discovering a calling.
What’s ‘one thing’ you should pursue?
